UAE is increasing the visa costs for visitors to 5 times of present rates now. I really wonder what prompted officials to do this? At about USD 150 entry visa cost, where UAE stands globally? Most of the time visit visas are required for expat residents to get their relatives & friends visit. When the inflation, falling currency and exhorbitent rise in living costs is forcing expats to look at other better alternatives; this unwarranted rise in visit visa costs is additional burden. The message seems to be clear enough, don’t get your relatives or friends to visit you.
On the other hand will this rise not act as deterrent for tourists? Eventually all costs get added to the shopping bill and then only one sees if it had been economical to shop with leisure. Even worst of the hotels in Dubai cost USD 80-100/night apart from other costs.
